PROTECT YOUR ENERGY

Protecting your ENERGY is something I’ve heard people talk about often. I’ll admit I never really understood how essential that really is. Your personal energy is priceless and if you’re not careful you will attract those who siphon your GAS/ENERGY.

I am a person that recognized a long time ago that validation of being needed was one of my issues. Although, I was unable to verbalize this for many years I knew I was operating in a curve that depleted me. I often characterized myself as someone whose love language is to “give”. That is very true and is a beautiful thing I celebrate about myself. The issue has ALWAYS been who I’ve chosen to give to.

Im the person that has always thrown my friends baby showers, shown up for their events, supported any endeavor they had(even if it was uncomfortable or difficult). I’m the one that at my Birthday celebrations I give MY “friends” gifts. I’ve made spaces, fought for, and campaigned for people to get in positions that I knew/felt they deserved. Those things and many others made me feel alive and brought joy to my life….. or so I believed. Now, I realize it was a futile attempt to be relevant in the lives of those I LOVE. I realized(although I don’t think all actions or people were malicious) that I’ve created and molded myself into a magnet for those who understand the strength of my loyalty but don’t feel compelled to return it.

Funny thing is, I’m not angry. I’m grateful. Grateful that I am understanding more and more that I have control over my relationships and partnerships. I always wanted to be labeled as unselfish so I gave so much there was NOTHING else for me. I somehow thought being a martyr was a celebrity spotlight. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Today, I stand firmly in LIVING my favorite slogan and just not saying it. I AM ENOUGH. You are too. Be careful about your energy. Take it seriously and refuse to apologize for protecting it. Get a refund on what you’ve given away.
